Winning meets is becoming a habit for the O’Fallon girls cross country team. The girls and boys teams traversed the muddy conditions on Saturday to turn in exceptional performances over the 5K course at Forest Park. The girls varsity and JV teams won the team titles for the Green Division, which is the most competitive division in the Forest Park Cross Country Festival. In this second team championship in as many weeks, the varsity girls scored 126 points, edging out second place team Blue Springs South by only nine points in the 21 team field.
Sophomore Sofia Parker led the Panthers with an impressive eighth-place finish. Junior Kaitlyn Walker crossed the finish line in 11th, with teammates Julia Monson and Emma Jordan also earning individual medals with 15th- and 26th-place finishes. Junior Abi Jackson rounded out the top five O’Fallon scorers. A mere 17 seconds separated the top four O’Fallon runners.
Not to be outdone by the varsity, the JV girls claimed the team title in their division as well. Kimberly Davenport (5th), Peyton Mutters (6th), Brianne Berres (8th), Olivia Anderson (11th), Taylor Peck (15th), Sam Suchanek (17th) and Sofia Lobue (51st) had an incredible team showing. They scored a low 45 points to the next closest team’s 90 points. There were 15 teams and 198 runners in the JV large school division.
Senior Will VanAlstine crossed the finish line in eight-place, pacing the varsity boys team to a solid sixth-place finish among 23 teams in the competitive green division race. Nick Edwards (29th), Jacob Ramirez (43rd), and Brendan Krell (44th) had strong races despite the extremely muddy conditions at Forest Park.
Nico Parker led his teammates with a 57th place finish in the JV race. The Panthers travel to Peoria this Saturday to compete at Detweiller Park in the prestigious Richard Spring Invitational.
