Jalen Brunson Delivers Message to Knicks Players After Game 3 Win
The New York Knicks are one win away from their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999. While Jalen Brunson is widely regarded as their best player, the entire team has worked together to reach this stage. As they hope to sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brunson had some words for his teammates.
The Knicks continued their hot form in the NBA playoffs this season by defeating the Cavs 121-108. Brunson was once again at the center of attention, leading the team with 30 points. His teammates followed closely, with OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges adding 21 and 22 points respectively.
During the post-game press conference, Brunson was asked about how well each of the Knicks players has contributed to the team's current form. "We have a bunch of individuals in that locker room who work really hard and they're very psychotic about their work and the things they do and that they're ready physically and mentally," he responded.
That approach has been evident throughout the series. Every Knicks starter has scored more than 10 points in all three games against the Cavaliers, making them one of the most balanced playoff attacks remaining in the postseason. Brunson gave credit to everyone for stepping up when needed.
The 3-time NBA All-Star said, "A lot of real professionals on our roster. No matter whose number is called, someone's gonna step up, someone's gonna be ready. That's the nature of who we are." While everyone has performed well, Brunson continues to lead the team in scoring.
Through the three games, he has scored 87 points. Brunson leads the series in scoring, while Donovan Mitchell ranks second with 78 points. But for the Knicks star, the biggest difference-maker has been how consistently New York's supporting cast has delivered under pressure.
In Game 2, Brunson recorded 14 assists, marking the first time a Knicks player registered that many in a playoff game since Charlie Ward did so back in 1998 against the Miami Heat. The 29-year-old understands how special this group is as he ended by saying, "It's been a pleasure working with these guys. It's been unbelievable. It's a testament to their character and their work ethic."
As the Knicks get the chance to sweep the Cavaliers, Brunson will once again seek support from his teammates. But the real test will begin once they reach the NBA Finals and face an even tougher opponent.
