NY Post Blasted For Headline About Zohran Mamdani, Knicks
New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani attended Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden this week.
The Knicks took a 2-0 series lead in Game 2. New York went on to win Game 3 on Saturday night, moving to within one game of the NBA Finals. The Knicks could be taking on either the Spurs or the Thunder with a championship on the line.
Mamdani, who won a heated New York City mayoral race, sat in the nosebleeds for Game 2. Tickets remain expensive, as the section Mamdani was sitting in could still cost north of $700 per ticket. Of course, Mamdani - and most adults - can afford to pay $700 for a one-off big event ticket. It's possible he was gifted the seats, too.
Regardless, it shouldn't be that big of a deal if a mayor attends a playoff game. But the New York Post made it one.
Mamdani didn't "quietly" attend the game, either. He posted photos on his own social media accounts. There's nothing quiet about that.
NY Post faces blowback for its headline
Many are calling out the New York Post over the headline.
"I'm in tears you guys are too bored. He's the mayor of the city and sitting in the nosebleeds," one fan wrote.
"This story about mamdani "quietly" attending the knicks game uses the photo that he posted to his millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter," one fan added.
"He's in the nosebleeds. here's eric adams and andrew cuomo sitting courtside," another fan pointed out.
"Hilariously perfect New York Post headline. He was sitting in some of the cheaper seats, as every fan knows. And there was nothing quiet about it he blasted it across social media, as did 1,000 other people," another shared.
"Trump always goes to UFC events crickets from New York Post then," another fan pointed out.
Perhaps we'll see the Mayor of New York City attending the NBA Finals, too.
