Why Is Casemiro Not Playing Tonight for Manchester United vs Brighton?
Manchester United travel to the Amex Stadium on Sunday for their final Premier League game of the 2025-26 season.
United have already secured third place and a return to the UEFA Champions League, but Michael Carrick's side will still be aiming to finish the campaign with another positive result after a strong second half of the season.
Brighton & Hove Albion, meanwhile, still have plenty to play for on the final day. The Seagulls begin the weekend in seventh place, though their finishing position could still change depending on results elsewhere.
Fabian Hurzeler's side remain in the race for sixth and European qualification, but they also risk slipping further down the table if things do not go their way.
Why Is Casemiro Not Playing Tonight Against Brighton?
Casemiro will not feature for Manchester United against Brighton because the Brazilian midfielder has already played his final match for the club.
Reports earlier this week confirmed that United and Casemiro mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the season, with Michael Carrick deciding not to include him for the trip to the south coast.
The 34-year-old made his farewell appearance during United's 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford last weekend. He received a standing ovation after being substituted late in the match as supporters acknowledged his contribution over the past four seasons.
"First of all, Casemiro, I decided last week would be his last game. That went as well as we could have hoped, to be honest, and he's been fantastic. I've said a lot of things about how well Case has done for me and for the whole club. I decided it was a good time for him to finish. It just felt the right time for Case. When it was decided, he was a part of that as well, so it was the right time," said Carrick.
Carrick has also hinted that he plans to rotate his squad for the Brighton game and give opportunities to younger players, with United having already confirmed their league position.
Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2022 and went on to become an important figure in midfield. During his time at Old Trafford, he helped the club win the FA Cup and the EFL Cup while making more than 150 appearances across all competitions.
