Charles Barkley Clowns Cleveland Fans After Another Cavaliers' Blowout Loss
Cleveland Cavaliers fans were already in the dumps. Not even the pixie dust of Taylor Swift sitting courtside could save them from another humiliating loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday night. The Knicks beat the Cavaliers, 121-108, in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals to take a 3-0 series lead.
Morale couldn’t have been bleaker amongst fans filing out of Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
Then, Charles Barkley happened.
ESPN aired “Inside the NBA” postgame. The show began with Barkley sweeping the studio, rubbing in the fact that the Knicks are one game away from sweeping Cleveland. Ernie Johnson narrated the highlights - or lowlights, from Cleveland’s perspective - punctuated by Barkley.
“I tell you what, Cleveland, we still got the Browns,” Barkley said. “Oh, bad example. Bad example. My bad. We still got the Guardians. Oh, another bad example.”
For reference, the Cleveland Browns haven’t won a playoff game since January 2021. The Cleveland Guardians are actually 31-23 atop the AL Central, but they haven’t won the World Series since 1948.
The Cavaliers won their first and only NBA title when LeBron James led them back from 3-1 down to defeat the Golden State Warriors in 2016. AfterJames’ departure for Los Angeles in 2018, the Cavaliers missed the playoffs for four straight years.
Just by appearing in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cavaliers have had the most successful postseason run since reaching the Finals in the 2017-18 season, but that will be overshadowed by how badly they’ve played against the Knicks.
The Cavaliers held a 22-point lead with just under eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter of Game 1, and it’s been all downhill from there. The Knicks staged a furious comeback to win Game 1 in overtime, 115-104, and haven’t given the Cavaliers an inch since then. They won Game 2 by 16 points before Saturday’s 13-point Game 3 win.
No team in NBA history has come back from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series, so the Knicks will more than likely clinch an NBA Finals berth on Monday night.
