Angel Reese Sets Another WNBA Record Ahead of Her Return to Chicago

On Saturday, the Atlanta Dream made a statement, dismantling the Mystics 109–77 in a dominant Commissioner’s Cup matchup.

Rhyne Howard led Atlanta with 19 points, shooting 71% from three, along with three assists and a game-high six steals, while Allisha Gray added 15 points and five assists, including 12 of 15 from the free-throw line.

But this was Angel Reese’s show. She matched her season high with 18 points, pulled down 17 rebounds, went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, and added four steals and a block.

And with that performance, the Dream sit at 7–3, the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Reese has now recorded 50-plus double-doubles through her first 75 career games, making her just one of four basketball players across any league (WNBA or NBA) to ever do it.

She’s also now just one double-double away from tying Blake Griffin for the most in that span.

Notably, Reese’s latest milestone arrives 24 hours before she walks into Wintrust Arena to face the Chicago Sky, the team that traded her away.

Reese voiced frustration with the Sky’s direction late in 2025, telling the Chicago Tribune she “might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me” if the team didn’t improve its outlook.

The Sky suspended Reese for half a game for comments deemed “detrimental to the team,” and the relationship never recovered.

On April 6, 2026, the Sky traded Reese to Atlanta in exchange for two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028.

Dream GM Dan Padover called Reese “a dynamic talent and a perfect fit for what we are building in Atlanta,” and through ten games, she’s looked the part.

In her Dream debut, Reese became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 50 career double-doubles, hitting that milestone in just 65 games, shattering a mark previously held by Tina Charles, who needed 75.

And now she’s within one of Blake Griffin on the all-time first-75-games list.
