Regular programs close, championship night coming up at I-55 raceway

The regular racing at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 continued with its last regular night program.

In the UMP Late Model division there were 15 cars ready to race. Heat race winners were Chris Fisher and Bobby Pierce from Oakwood, Ill. The dash went to Pierce.

The 25-lap feature started with Pierce and Cody Conner on the front row. With the green light turned on, Pierce would take command with Conner, Michael Kloos, Rusty Griffaw and Fisher in the chase mode.

This race only had one caution on lap 11 with Pierce leading and Kloos in the hunting mode.

The race was all Pierce as he pulled away to a half track lead over Kloos and the rest of the field.

Pierce would get his first feature win at Federated with Kloos, Scott Weber, Conner and Fisher competing the top five. Pierce also brought his broom with him and swept the night.

In the UMP Modified class, there were 27 car trying to make the feature. Heat race winners were Rick Conoyer, Tyler Ratajczyk and Zach Shantz. The dash went to Conoyer and the semi was won by Derek Black.

The 20 lap feature started with Conoyer and Mark Miner on the front row. With the start of the race, Conoyer would jump to the front and was chased by Ratajczyk, Miner, Zeb Moake and Justin Reando.

This was a fun race to watch as the top five cars would be changing positions lap after lap. They also would be running in different lines on the track.

Conoyer would lead the first 12 laps before Ratajczyk would take the lead before a lap 13 caution. Ratajczyk would move up the track and was running the high line and past Conoyer for the lead.

Ratajczyk would continue to run the high line and keep the cars behind him.

Ratajczyk would take his first victory of the year with Miner, Steve Picou, Conoyer and Brent Thompson completing the top five. Ratajczyk is from Columbia..

Next week is championship night for all classes and the final night for track points.
