Belleville West defeats Triad in nonconference play 2-1

The Belleville West Maroons defeated the Triad Knights 2-1 in girls soccer Thursday.

The last time these teams met Triad (13-6) defeated West (12-3-2) 1-0 on March 15.

Olivia Alvarez tied the game for the Maroons late in the first half. Melanie Kulig came out strong in the second to score the game-winning goal off a corner kick. Goalkeeper Bailey Redden played a full 80 and had four saves.

“Both teams played really well tonight,” West’s head coach Jason Mathenia stated. “I have no doubt that Triad will do well in post season play.”

West is on a seven-game winning streak as they head back into conference play against rival Belleville East on May 9 at 7 p.m. Triad next plays Waterloo at home May 9 at 4:15 p.m.
