Rain washes out regional baseball, softball games; state track meet continues

Weekend storms are causing the postponement of IHSA baseball and softball regionals.

Games have been rescheduled for Monday, which was to be an off day for the Class 1A and Class 2A postseasons.

BASEBALL

▪  The Class 2A Red Bud Regional championship game between Gibault and Nashville has been postponed until 4 p.m. Monday.

▪  The Class 1A Marissa Regional championship game between Bunker Hill and Marissa has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Monday.

▪  The Class 1A Valmeyer Regional game between Valmeyer and Mount Olive has been rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday.

▪  The Class 2A Flora Regional championship between Central and Newton has been rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday.

▪  The Class 2A Althoff Regional title game between Alton Marquette and Gillespie will be played at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Citizen’s Park in Belleville.

SOFTBALL

▪  The Class 2A Dupo Regional championship game between Dupo and Wood River will be played at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

▪  The Class 1A Lebanon Regional championship game between New Athens and Valmeyer will be played at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Rain in Charleston also has caused delays at the IHSA girls track and field meet.

Field events are being moved to indoor facilities at Eastern Illinois University. Track events will continue at O’Brien Stadium. IHSA officials hope they can fit in those events on an accelerated schedule between 1 and 5 p.m., when forecasters say they can expect a break from the storms.
