West bowlers take title at Cahokia Regional

Belleville West senior Nathan Bovinette averaged better then 210 for his six game block and two other Maroons also finished action on Saturday with averages of 200 or better as the Maroons edged host Cahokia for the team title at the Cahokia Bowling Regional at Red Bird Lanes.

With Bovinette finishing the day nwith a toal of 1,277 pins and Malik Ballard (1,273) and T.J. Cole (1,244) also chipping in with superb days, the Maroons finished the day with 6,178 pins, 34 more then Cahokia as they edged the Comanches for the title. Belleville East (5,878) and Mascoutah (5,716) rounded out the top four teams which advance to the Herrin Sectional at Southern Illinois Bowl in Carterville on Jan. 24.

Michael McGarry (1,287) and Kyle Brewer (1,286) led the way for second place Cahokia while senior Austin Swires (1,243) led Belleville East and Zach Miller (1,329) led fourth place Mascoutah.

Indivividual honors went to Columbia’s Cameron Touchette (1,336), Also moving on as individuals were Cade Stein of Columbia (1,292), Waterloo’s Matt Goessling (1,256) and Andrew Reifschneider (1,136), Gibault’s Austin Doerr (1,254) and Connor Meehan (1,158), Freeburg’s Tyler Hunter (1,228) and Cole Gilmore (1,129), Daniel Hummel (1,195) of Althoff and Trevor Alexander of Wesclin (1,168).

At the Alton Regional

Collinsville senior Branden Boehnke averaged 707 for his three game series as he led the Kahoks to the title at the Alton Bowling Regional on Saturday at Bowl Haven Lanes in Alton.

Boehnke finished the day with a total of 1,417 pins to lead the way for Collinsville which finished with a score of 6,443, well ahead of second place O’Fallon (6,285). Alton (6,213) and Civic Memorial (6,119) rounded out the top four schools who advance to the Herrin Sectional.

Clayton Hartman (1,386) had the second best score for Collinsville which edged Southwestern Conference power O”Fallon.

Justin Peacock led O’Fallon with a 1,347 score while Bradley Soloman (1,299) also had a great day on the lanes for O’Fallon.

Advancing as individuals were Brian Reeves (1,270) and Gavin Pisetta (1,194) of Triad, Justin Simpson (1,225), Corey Hard (1,212) and Ricky Hard (1,189) of Granite City, Grant Mitchell of Metro East Lutheran (1,208), Ben Shaw (1,141) of Lebanon and Tyler Voyles (1,182) of Edwardsville.

At the Taylorville Regional

Mater Dei senior Lucas Deimeke finished with a score of 1,419 pins to take top honors at the Talyorville Regional at Spare Tyme Lanes in Decatur.

Mater Dei teammates Josh Albers (1,207) and Jordan Ottensmeier (1,142) also qualified for the Herrin Sectional as individuals. In the team competition, Salem lapped the field with a score of 6,284, while Highland (6.089) also moved on by placing second.

Junior Jordan Buske (1,368) led the way for the Bulldogs.
