East St. Louis breaks into Top 10 rankings in Class 4A

East St. Louis (12-5) broke into the Class 4A Top 10 in the latest Associated Press boys state basketball rankings Wednesday, grabbing the No. 8 spot. Alton and O’Fallon also got votes in the 4A state poll.

Nashville’s loss to Teutopolis dropped the Hornets (18-2) from first to third in the new Class 2A state rankings. Hales Franciscan (16-2) took over the top spot in 2A, with Teutopolis (17-2) also jumping ahead of Nashville following two straight wins at the Nashville Invitational.

Central (15-3) is seventh in the 2A state rankings while Mater Dei (12-7) also got votes.

Althoff (14-2) moved to fifth from seventh in the Class 3A state rankings while Okawville (11-8) got votes in the 1A state poll.

On the girls side, unbeaten Edwardsville (17-0) held down the No. 5 spot in the Class 4A state rankings for the second week in a row. In Class 3A, Highland (20-1) moved up to seventh from 10th the week before while Central (18-1) remained second in the Class 2A state rankings.
