The Nashville Hornets (22-2) remain the highest ranked team in the metro-east, coming in at No. 2 in the new Class 2A Associated Press boys basketball state rankings released Tuesday.
Central (18-5) is ninth in 2A and Mater Dei is 10th — and all three teams will be competing in the Carlyle Regional.
Althoff (18-2) moved from fifth to tied for fourth in the 3A boys rankings while East St. Louis (14-5) stayed at No. 7 in 4A, where O’Fallon and Alton both got votes. Ironically, Althoff is tied with its opponent at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout on Saturday, Westchester St. Joseph (16-5).
Okawville (14-9) dropped from ninth to 10th in Class 1A despite winning both its games last week.

The Edwardsville Tigers girls basketball team, now 22-0, moved up to fourth in the new 4A girls state rankings, with Belleville West and East St. Louis also getting a vote.
Central (21-3) was third in 2A and unbeaten New Athens (23-0) was fifth in 1A, with Highland (23-3) just outside the Class 3A Top 10 at No. 12. On Monday, Highland was upset by Triad, losing 63-55.
