Thursday’s top high school sports performances

Lucas Maue, Belleville East, QB

Starting for injured senior Kienen Waller, Maue completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for 291 yards and pair of touchdowns in the Lancers 42-23 loss to Quincy.

Cal Clossen, Freeburg, QB

In week three of the season, Clossen competed 13 of 19 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 56 yards to help lead Freeburg to a 28-0 conference victory over Central.

Brendan Meng, Freeburg, WR

The Freeburg senior had six receptions for 152 yards and connected with quarterback Cal Clossen for three touchdowns in the Midgets victory. Meng has seven touchdowns on the season

Ian Gerfen, Freeburg, WR

Gerfen grabbed an interception to help keep Central scoreless in Freeburg’s 28-0 win.

Ronnie Hunsaker, Columbia, RB

Rushing for 109 yards in nine attempts, the Eagles’ junior had his best game of the season so far, pushing his season total to 202 yards in Columbia’s 35-6 home-field victory over Salem. Hunsaker also had two touchdowns on the night. The first came on a 78-yard run in the first quarter while the second was a 3-yard run with 1:25 left in the game.

Donovan Scott- Gass, Collinsville, Soccer

The senior scored three goals to lead the charge for the Kahoks in their 6-0 home field victory over the Highland Bulldogs.

Logan Whitehead, Collinsville, Soccer

Whitehead added two goals to Donovan Scott-Gass’ hat trick to boost the Kahoks to a win over Highland. The senior now has seven goals on the season.

Ethan, Moore, Wood River, Soccer

Moore scored two goals in Wood River’s 4-1 win over Staunton to lift his season total to an impressive 18 goals.

Karson Bridges, Riley Hubler, and Brad Meyer, Columbia, Soccer

The trio of Eagle players each scored 3 goals in Columbia’s 13-0 shutout of Lebanon. Bridges now has seven goals while Hubler and Meyer have 17 and 7, respectively, this season.
