Cahokia claims second straight Class 2A girls state track title

Cahokia sophomore Mariya Hudson swept the sprints and earned four medals overall to help the Cahokia Comanches claim their second straight Class 2A girls state track and field championship on Saturday at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston.

Hudson ran a 12.02 seconds to win the 100-meter dash, while she clocked in at 54.79 to win the 400 and 24.64 to claim the 200.

Hudson, who also posted a third place in the long jump, got plenty of help from teammate Raynesha Lewis who won the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 10 3/4 inches.

Lewis, a junior, also placed fourth in the triple jump and earned a second in the 100 hurdles for the Comanches, who finished with 61 points, 10 points better than runner-up (Chicago) Morgan Park.

Hudson and Lewis combined to score all 61 of Cahokia’s points.

The Southwestern Conference had three champions in the Class 3A portion of the meet.

East St. Louis’ Aaliah Herren got off a throw of 43-1 to win the shot put, while Belleville East’s Miya Dorsey clocked in at 42.94 to win the 300 hurdles. Alton’s LaJarvia Brown won the triple jump with an effort of 41-2.
