Belleville West senior guard Shay Fluker earned second-team all-state honors in Class 4A on Thursday when the Associated Press announced its Class 3A-4A girls basketball all-state teams.
Fluker was one of the top scorers in the area, averaging 20.8 points and 5.2 rebounds with 78 3-pointers and 20 blocked shots. The Maroons (25-6) won a regional championship and lost to Southwestern Conference rival East St. Louis in the sectional.
Civic Memorial sophomore Allie Troeckler was the lone first-team all-state selection from the region. Troeckler had the fourth-highest vote total among all 3A players after averaging 21 points and 8.7 rebounds for the 26-7 Eagles, who won a regional championship. She has more than 1,100 points in only two varsity seasons.
Belleville West senior guard Imani Berry received 4A honorable mention all-state honors. Berry averaged 19.4 points for the Maroons with 51 3-pointers and 105 steals.
Freshman forward Rachel Pranger and Edwardsville sophomore guard Makenzie Silvey also received 4A honorable mention all-state honors. Pranger led Edwardsville in scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 per game) while she and Silvey, who averaged 14.3 points with 43 3-pointers, helped the Tigers win 30 straight games before losing to Benet Academy in the Class 4A super-sectional.
Highland’s 5-foot-10 junior guard Amanda Ponce was honorable mention in Class 3A. Ponce averaged a team-leading 13.8 points for the Bulldogs (27-4) with 78 steals.
