Missouri coach and East St. Louis native Cuonzo Martin and Kansas State coach Bruce Weber were among those who visited Belleville West on Monday to watch prized basketball prospect EJ Liddell during an open gym.
Former Southern Illinois University Carbondale coach Chris Lowery, an assistant at Kansas State, also was in attendance. Missouri assistant Chris Hollander accompanied Martin, who will be entering his first season with the Tigers.
Iowa assistant Sherman Dillard and Marquette assistant Chris Carrawell rounded out the group.
The 6-foot-7 Liddell, who averaged 19.6 points and 7.4 rebounds as a sophomore, has received offers from Missouri, Kansas State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Saint Louis University, DePaul, SIU Carbondale and Illinois State.
Liddell has taken unofficial visits to Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas State. He can begin taking official NCAA-paid visits in January.
Per NCAA rules, Monday was the first opportunity for coaches to visit the gymnasium to watch and visit with a prospect.
West coach Joe Muniz said Saint Louis and Illinois are expected to visit Liddell next week.
