Althoff’s Goodwin voted first-team all-state; O’Fallon’s Franklin is second-team

Althoff sophomore Jordan Goodwin, who helped lead his team to the Class 3A state tournament, was the lone metro-east player to earn first-team all-state status Thursday when the Associated Press released its Class 3A-4A Boys Basketball All-State Teams.

The 6-foot-3 Goodwin averaged a team-leading 19.7 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Crusaders (29-3), who take on two-time defending state champion Morgan Park in the semifinals at 12:15 p.m. Friday in Peoria. Goodwin’s teammate, junior guard Brendon Gooch, earned honorable mention all-state honors.

Gooch averaged 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Crusaders. Also earning honorable mention all-state honors in Class 3A was Civic Memorial’s 6-7 senior forward Jakob Lowrance. Lowrance, headed to Division II Central Missouri, averaged 19.5 points and 9.7 rebounds with 52 blocked shots and 32 3-pointers.

O’Fallon High senior Donovan Franklin, a 6-5 senior guard and Division I recruit, was voted second-team all-state in Class 4A after averaging 21.1 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Panthers. He also had 35 3-pointers.

Earning honorable mention all-state in Class 4A was East St. Louis Flyers sophomore center Jeremiah Tilmon. The 6-10 center averaged 11.3 points and 6.9 rebounds with 84 blocked shots. He is considered to be among the nation’s top sophomore center recruits.
