Althoff’s Goodwin named third-team Sophomore All-American by CBS/MaxPreps

Althoff sophomore Jordan Goodwin, who helped lead the Crusaders to a second-place finish at the Class 3A state tournament, has been named a third-team All-American on the CBS/ MaxPreps Sophomore All-American Basketball Team.

Goodwin was the only player from Illinois on the first, second and third All-American teams.

The 6-foot-3 Goodwin was also the Belleville News-Democrat’s Class 3A-4A Basketball Player of the Year. He averaged 20.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals for the Crusaders (29-4) and is one of five returning regulars along with juniors Brendon Gooch, Tarkus Ferguson and Keenen Young and sophomore C.J. Coldon.

According to the MaxPreps.com web site, the team was chosen by the following parameters: “Selections are based on team success, individual production and local, regional and state honors from the recently completed season. Potential at the college or professional level is not a primary consideration. Players in post-graduate programs are not eligible for inclusion.”

James Walker, Jr., a 6-5 wing player from Jonesboro, Ga., was named National Sophomore Player of the Year.
