Undefeated Alton Marquette advances to regional title game

After going undefeated in the regular season, the Alton Marquette Explorers kept the momentum alive Tuesday with a 54-43 win over the Mascoutah Indians at the Class 3A Waterloo Regional.

Mascoutah kept the game interesting early on, trailing by only one point after the first quarter and managing to tie the game at 22 at the half.

But Marquette took advantage of the break, regrouped and put a little bit of distance between itself and Mascoutah going into the fourth quarter, eventually sealing its trip to the championship game.

Sammy Green and Jake Hall were the leading scorers for the Explorers with 16 points apiece.

Alton Marquette (29-0) will play the winner of the Civic Memorial-Columbia semifinal for the regional championship Friday.

Madison advances to sectional title game

In the Class 1A White Hall Sectional semifinal Tuesday, Madison outlasted New Berlin 59-54 to advance to the championship game.

Kameron Jamison led Madison with 24 points. Two others players scored big for the Trojans: Kendall Kennedy (17 points) and Kenyan Stanley (14).

Madison (15-13) will play the winner of the Okawville-Winchester semifinal for the sectional championship Friday.

Wesclin outlasts Anna-Jonesboro to advance to sectional title game

Wesclin topped Anna-Jonesboro 67-50 on Tuesday to advance to the title game of its home regional.

The Warriors came out strong on offense, leading by 15 at halftime and up 55-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Senior Hunter Ottensmeier led the way for Wesclin, scoring a team-high 26 points. Junior Nate Brede also had a big night for the Warriors, scoring 20 points.

Wesclin (26-4) will play for the Class 2A Wesclin Sectional championship Friday against the winner of the Pinckneyville-Nashville semifinal.
