For the second week in a row, unbeaten East St. Louis and Althoff maintained their No. 1 spots in the latest Associated Press state football rankings.

East St. Louis (4-0) is No. 1 in Class 7A, while Althoff (4-0) is No. 1 in Class 4A.

The next highest ranked regional team is Centralia (4-0), which is fourth in Class 5A and plays host to South Seven Conference rival Althoff at 7 p.m. Friday.

Despite not losing a game this season and beating O’Fallon 19-0 last week, the Edwardsville Tigers (4-0) somehow dropped from fifth to seventh in the Class 8A state rankings.

Belleville West (2-2) was 17th in the Class 7A rankings.

Four other metro-east teams showed up in the Class 5A state rankings. Triad (3-1), which was upset by Waterloo last week, was 13th, followed by No. 14 Highland (3-1). Waterloo (3-1) got enough votes to land the No. 15 spot, while Cahokia (2-2) was 21st.

Columbia (4-0) moved up from seventh to sixth in the Class 4A rankings, while Mater Dei (2-2) dropped out of the top 10 following a 27-20 loss to Mt. Carmel on Friday.

Central (4-0) made its first Top 10 appearance this season, landing the No. 9 spot in the new Class 3A state rankings. Central plays host to Mater Dei at 7 p.m. Friday in the annual Milk Bowl game between Breese area rivals.

In Class 2A, surprising Red Bud (4-0) also cracked the Top 10 as the Musketeers came in 10th in the new rankings.
