The Class 7A state football champion East St. Louis Flyers went nationwide Monday after being voted 18th in the latest USA Today Super 25 high school football rankings.

The Flyers (14-0) won their first state title since 2008 on Nov. 26, defeating Plainfield North 26-13 at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois. It was the eighth state football championship by East St. Louis, easily the most by any metro-east team.

East St. Louis was the only Illinois team ranked in the Top 25 nationally. The top five teams were Bishop Gorman High from Las Vegas, Nev., (15-0), IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., (11-0), DeSoto (Texas) High (14-0), DeMatha Catholic from Hyattsville, Md. (12-0) and Allen (Texas) High (14-0).
