Three-run eighth propels Cards past Cubs

Stephen Piscotty hit reliever Fernando Rodney’s first pitch into the right-center gap in the eighth inning Wednesday, driving in the tying and go-ahead runs as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied past the Chicago Cubs and salvaged a victory in the three-game series. Jonathan Broxton, the Cardinals’ fourth pitcher, was the winner. Trevor Rosenthal posted his 43rd save. Clayton Richard took the loss.

Matt Carpenter was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and one RBI. ... The Cardinals had just five hits. ...
