After Cincinnati moved out to a four-run lead, there was a strong sense that the Redbirds had no chance of staging a comeback. St. Louis did eventually score three runs. But by then the Reds had pushed nine tallies across the plate.
Kyle Lohse made a surprise start after it was announced a few days ago that he was not recovered enough from getting hit by a batted ball to pitch. And he wasn't very good at all. His pitches were being left high in the strike zone and getting hammered hard.

Lowlight: Joe Thurston has been better at the plate lately. But he has been terrible with the glove. The game got out of control when there were runners on base and one out and he let a ball hit right at him go between his legs. Instead of the inning being over, the flood gates were thrown wide open.
