According to mlb.com, Cardinals first round draft pick Shelby Miller is close to signing with the team. He is believed to be en-route to St. Louis for a physical needed to finalize the contract.
Miller told mlb.com that he is optimistic he will get a deal done as opposed to holding out and going to college so he can re-enter the draft next season.
Cardinls GM John Mozeliak said today on KTRS that it's hard to predict the likelihood of striking an agreement. But he said he felt positive about the situation.
Miller was 10-2 with a 2.00 ERA as a senior at Brownwood High School in Texas. He had 38 walks with 153 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings and has committed to play for Texas A&M if he doesn't turn pro.
