According to a report from ESPN's Jayson Stark posted Thursday evening, the Cardinals have offered the Astros two young players currently on the major league roster in exchange for ace pitcher Roy Oswalt.
I'm guessing one of them was probably Allen Craig. Other players who would fit that description include OF Jon Jay, SP Jaime Garcia, RP Fernando Salas, IF Tyler Greene and SP/RP Blake Hawksworth.
Either the Cardinals aren't serious or they are trying to drive a hard bargain. I can't believe the Astros are going to take a package that doesn't including top pitching prospect Shelby Miller, a Texas native.
The Astros, according to Stark, are more interested in young pitching, catching and corner infield help than what the Redbirds have on the table. I wonder if receiver Bryan Anderson is of interet to Houston. Craig, Anderson and Miller sounds like a pretty good package in my book.
According to another report on AOL Fanhouse, the Cardinals are still talking with other teams about pitchers including the Diamondbacks about former St. Louis hurler Danny Haren and with the Athletics about former Brewers hurler Ben Sheets.
