It appears that the Red Sox are growing more serious in their pursuit of Matt Holliday and that they have pretty much written off bringing back their incumbent left fielder, Jason Bay.
According to a report from Fox Sports, Boston feels that if it replaced Bay with Holliday that it would not only make its team better. But it would also recover better draft picks when Bay signs elsewhere than it would have had if it kept its own player and the picks the team currently has.
It's bizarre at this point that we aren't hearing ANYTHING about specific offers. Usually the rumor mill is hot and heavy by now. But it seems that most things are playing things close to the vest as they try to feel out the market in a bizarre offseason. Not only is the economy a huge question mark, but the players available leave something to be desired for the most part.
