The Cubs have released former Cardinals outfielder So Taguchi who managed only 12 major league plate appearances and six major league games in 2009.
He hit .273 in his limited playing time, scoring one run while notching no RBIs.
Taguchi, who turned 40 in July, apparently still wants to play another season and is hoping to catch on with another team.
Cardinals fans will always remember Taguchi best for his work in the 2006 National League Championship Series against the Mets. He had only three at bats, but he got a hit each time. The biggest blow was a homer off of New York closer Billy Wagner to give the Cardinals a 7-6 lead in the ninth inning of game 2.
His biggest Wrigley field moment came as a member of the Cardinals on July 20, 2004 when the Cardinals overcame a 7-1 second inning deficit to beat the Cubs 11-8. Taguchi hit a solo shot off of Kyle Farnsworth in the eighth inning to give the Redbirds an 8-7 lead that they secured with three more runs in the ninth.
