According to a report released today, Major League Baseball attendance is down nearly 7 percent so far this season compared to the season totals for the 2008 season.
Clubs have drawn an average of 30,298 fans per contest, according to commissioner Bug Selig's office. The clubs averaged 32,539 last year.

The Cardinals have drawn 38,407 fan per game at Busch Stadium in the early going of 2009. That is good enough for sixth amongst MLB's clubs.
I wouldn't read too much into the numbers at this point because early games are usually not as well attended as games when the warmer weather hits and when kids are out of school for the summer.
But the Cardinals season ticket base is amongst the best in baseball and you can bet they will remain near the top in tickets sold -- despite their performance.
