Cardinals sign Suppan

The Cardinals have announced thay they have signed Jeff Suppan for the remainder of the season.

Suppan, who won 16 games twice for the Cardinals in the middle of the decade and then left to sign a four-year contract with Milwaukee after the 2006 World Series, had a 7.84 ERA with the Brew Crew and had lost his job in the starting rotation at the time he was released.

While he was in St. Louis the now 35-year-old Suppan was 44-26 with a 3.95 ERA. Since then he's  29-36 with a 5.08 ERA.

No word on what role Suppan would play with the Redbirds or -- if he is put in the rotation -- when he would pitch.
