Cardinals starter Brad Penny gave up three earned runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings Monday against the Mets.
But that wasn't the worst of it. Penny had a scary moment when he was hit on his pitching forearm by a linedrive in the first inning. He was able to continue. But it makes you think when it's the same kind of injury that, although it seemed minor at first, essentially ruined fellow starter Kyle Lohse's season in 2009.
At the plate, Felipe Lopez helped turn around his slow spring start with a pair of hits in four at bats to raise his batting average to .167.
Colby Rasmus was 1-for-3 to stay on a roll with a .360 batting average.
