Villone goes National

Former Cardinals lefty Ron Villone has joined the Washington Nationals organization.

Villone was cut by the Yankees during spring training. The Nationals already have three lefties in their bullpen at the major league level -- including recently signed Joe Beimel. So Villone, who had a 4.68 ERA for the Cardinals in 2008, will pitch for Class AAA Syracuse with what would seem to be little chance to crack the major league roster.

Another former Cardinals pitcher was also on the move Friday.

Luis Perdomo, the Class AA pitcher traded to the Cardinals last year by the Indians for Anthony Reyes after the Birds turned down an offer of Cliff Lee for Reyes in 2007, was claimed off of waivers by San Diego. He was previous in the Giants system.
