The Cardinals will send Ryan Ludwick out on a rehab assignment beginning Tuesday after he passed tests on his injured calf Monday at Busch Stadium.
Ludwick hit in the cage and ran the bases prior to the Redbirds' opener against the Phillies. He looked good, motoring aroound the bags with ease at full speed.
Getting Ludwick back will be a huge boost for the Cardinals who seem to be coming together offensively. He was hitting .273 with 11 homers and 42 RBIs before he hurt his calf nearly a month ago.
Kyle Lohse doesn't seem like he's too terribly far behind Ludwick on the rehab trail. Before the game Monday he told Fox Sports Midwest that his surgically repaired right arm feels good and he's getting close to making a rehab start soon.
