Fortunately, the bullpen was rock solid and pitched in for 4 2/3 shutout innings to secure the 5-1 victory.
Albert Pujols, who has been in a terrible slump during the Cardinals brief road trip had a weakly hit two-run single to put the game out of reach and hopefully get his bat going in time for this weekend's series at home against the red hot Brewers.
Colby Rasmus hit his 2nd MLB homer, a 450-foot blast to right that one hopped its way into the river beyond the outfield wall.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Skip Schumaker was 3-for-4 to raise his batting average to .321 for the season.
Lowlight: Joe Thurston was 0-4 to fall to .239 at the plate for the young season.
