Well, that was disappointing.
It seems like the Cardinals are determined to keep things interesting by losing four of five while the Brewers lay down for the Cubs.
Adam Wainwright pitched brilliantly Tuesday night, making only one mistake: a hanger to Dan Uggla. The Marlins second baseman deposited the ball over the leftfield wall for a two-run homer and that's all she wrote. The Cardinals could manage only a sacrifice fly against another pitcher no one has ever heard of before and they lost 2-1 to see their lead shrink to 8 1/2 games with Chicago coming to town this weekend.

Albert Pujols was 2-for-3 and Skip Schumaker was 2-4. But the rest of the offense took the night off, going 3-for-25. Matt Holliday, who carried this team for most of August, seems like the job made him tired. He was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts and five runners stranded on base.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Wainwright tossed seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out eight and walking one.
Lowlight: It really seems that Mark DeRosa's wrist trouble is getting out of control. He seems helpless at the plate and hasn't hit a home run in weeks.
