The Cardinals have announced that Ryan Ludwick will have to be disabled due to the hamstring pull that that caused him to be removed from Tuesday's game against the Pirates.
Nick Stavinoha has been recalled from Memphis to fill Ludwick's spot on the roster and, presumably, in the outfield.
Stavinoha was called up briefly last season and hit .193. He seemed overmatched at times in his 29 at bats with 11 strikeouts and only one extra base hit -- a double -- that left him with a .211 slugging percentage. He was hitting .264 with four homers at Class AAA this season.
Joe Mather, who nearly made the major league club out of spring training and who also plays the outfield, is hitting .129 at Memphis.
