Former Cardinals hurler Braden Looper had a tryout with the Cubs and may be close to a deal to pitch out of their bullpen according to Fox's Ken Rosenthal.
Looper, whose contract option was declined by the Brewers after last season has been picky about potential jobs. He said over the off-season that he would rather retire than sign a below market contract despite reported interest from the Mets and other clubs.
Supposedly, Looper wanted to pitch for the Cubs all along because his family lives in the Chicago area.
