Saturday night's game against the Marlins was shaping up to be one of those season defining moments.
Down by one in the top of the ninth, Albert Pujols singled followed by a Matt Holliday base hit. With two outs, Yadier Molina then stroked a single to tie the game and then Aaron Miles got another to give St. Louis a 4-3 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.
And that's when things went sour.
Closer Ryan Franklin gave up a solo homer to Dan Uggla in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Then in the 10th, Franklin gave up a single to Chad Tracy and a double to Hanley Ramirez to lose the game 5-4.
Instead of a comeback win to keep place with the Reds, the Cardinals fell to a game and a half back in the National League Central Standings.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Yadier was 3-for-4 with the game-tying hit with two out in the bottom of the ninth.
Cardinals Play of the Game: Miles' go ahead single.
Lowlight: Franklin's blown save and loss. He pitched an inning and a third and gave up two hits and three runs.
