The Mariners have released former Cardinals bullpenner Tyler Johnson from their Class AAA team.
Johnson has struggled to recover from the shoulder injury that ended his Cardinals career last season. He managed to pitch only 2 2/3 innings for Tacoma where he posted a frightening line of nine runs on eight hits allowed. He also surrendered two homers in that time, sinking his hopes of being Seattle's bullpen lefty.
Johnson had a clause in his contract that allowed him to ask for his release if he was not called up to the majors by July 1. And that, obviously, wasn't going to happen.
