Ludwick activated, Walters shipped out

The Cardinals have activated outfielder Ryan Ludwick from the disabled list and he is expected to be in the lineup today in Chicago.

To make room the team returned P.J. Walters, who pitched two scoreless innings Friday against the Cubs, to Class AAA Memphis.

Ludwick has been out since June 26 with a calf problem. Ludwick is hitting .273 with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs in 71 games played.

Outfielder Allen Craig was sent to Memphis Friday to allow Walters to add his fresh arm to the bullpen after the Cardinals played extra innings in a 110-degree heat index Thursday against Philadelphia. So, essentially, Craig was the odd mad out when Ludwick returned.
