The Major League Baseball Players Association has named Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright its Outstanding National League Pitcher of the Year.
The announcement comes on the heels of the group on Tuesday announcing that Chris Carpenter was its NL Comeback Player of the Year.

Wainwright led the National League in wins with a 19-8 record to go along with his 2.63 ERA and 212 strikeouts. He is considered to be a favorite, along with Tim Lincecum of the Giants and Carpenter, for the 2009 Cy Young Award.
