The Cardinals got a bit of a cheap one Thursday, winning a rain shortened makeup game against Washington. But, after getting swept by the Astros, I'm sure they'll take whatever they can get.
Adam Wainwright made the start and was able to weather the first rain delay and hang on for the win. He pitched six innings and allowed one run on eight hits in the 4-1 Cardinals victory. He struck out seven while only walking one.
The Cardinals scored an easy run in the first when Skip Schumaker doubled then went to third when Nats left fielder Adam Dunn dropped a ball while trying to fish it out of his glove after recording an out. Mark DeRosa drove the run home with an excuse me sacrifice. Rick Ankiel added the second run with his first homer in about six weeks.
The Cardinals scored another pair of runs in the fourth to pad the lead and held on until the rain washed out the game.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Wainwright.
Lowlight: Colby Rasmus has one hit in his last 16 at bats.
