Barden, Pujols honored

Cardinals infielder Brian Barden is the National League Rookie of the Month for April and Cardinals first sacker Albert Pujols is the Senior Circuit hitter of the month.

Barden, 28, hit .385 in 21 games with a .641 slugging percentage to lead NL rookies. He was second in on-base percentage: .432.

The product of Oregon State University quickly got with the program in St. Louis' historic rivalry with the Cubs: In five games against Chicago, he went 8-for-12 (.667), with home runs in consecutive games (April 16-17), and a three-hit game on April 25.

Other rookies drawing support were Washington hurler Jordan Zimmermann (2-0, 2.38 ERA), Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler (.290 with nine stolen bases, including a five-bag haul on April 27 against San Diego) and Braves outfielder Jordan Schafer.  

Pujols struck out seven times in April... While hitting eight homers. He hit .337 with the league lead in RBIs (28) and runs (22.) He also reached base in each of the 23 games he played.
