While there was talk that Matt Holliday's contract would be backloaded, mlb.com's Matthew Leach reports that it will be for a flat $17 million each year.
ABC reported Holliday's deal with the Cardinals is a seven-year, $119-million contract that also includes a team option for an eighth year at $17 million -- or a $1 million buyout.
It is a vesting option. But, so far, no word on what the triggers are in place to guarantee the eighth season. Also, no word up to this point about any opt out clauses. The contract offers a full no-trade clause But, honestly, where could the Cardinals trade a contract of this size that Holliday that would be a place Holliday wouldn't want to play?
SI reports that Matt Holliday and the Cardinals have agreed on a seven-year contract worth $120 million.
