Yanks want Girardi back

Despite the $206 million Yankees failure to make it to the World Series, GM Brian Cashman told the New York media that he plans to make bringing free agent skipper Joe Girardi back for 2012.

Girardi was mentioned as a possible candidate to be manager of the Cardinals or the Cubs if New York took a page out of the old George Steinbrenner play book and canned him. But both the Birds and the Wee Bears filled their managerial posts from within before the Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs by the Rangers.
