Former Cardinals find greener pastures

Spring training had a happy endind for a pair of former Cardinals pitchers.

Jason Isringhausen, the Birds' former closer, has caught on with the Tampa Bay Rays, although he will start the season on the disabled list. There he'll get time to strengthen the surgically repaired elbow that cut short his 2008 campaign in St. Louis. He provides cheap insurance for Tampa and could come back sometime in May if all goes well.

Meanwhile, Jeff Suppan has been named Milwaukee's opening day starter.

Hired following the 2006 World Series to be the Brewers' third starter, Suppan graduated to the head of the class with the defection of C.C. Sabathia to the Yankees and the free agent exit of Ben Sheets.
