Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has been sent back to St. Louis for tests on his sore knee, according to the team.
This knee problem has been going on for a few weeks and seems like it's not going to go away on its own. So, the Redbirds need to do the smart thing and shut Yadi down before he makes it worse. At least they can somehow benefit by being out of the playoff picture if they can use the extra down time to get Molina ready for the 2011 push.
Besides, it will give the Cardinals some additional time to weigh the abilities of Bryan Anderson and Matt Pagnozzi -- the two guys in the system most likely to fill Jason LaRue's cleats as the back up catcher next season -- in real game situations. You can tell a lot more about a guys true capabilities in a real game than you can in a spring training contest.
