Former Cardinals catcher Tom Nieto is continuing his climb toward a major league managerial job.
According to mlb.com, Nieto has been promoted from the manager of the Twins' Class AA manager in New Britain to the helm of its top farm club, Class AAA Rochester.
New Britain was 72-69 last season and finished second in the Eastern League.
Neito was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round in 1981. He played 251 games for the Cardinals, Expos, Twins and Phillies. His best major league season came in 1985 when he had 288 plate apperances for St. Louis, hitting .225 over 95 games.
He was part of the 1987 trade that sent Jeff Reardon to the Twins from Montreal.
