Barden thrown back by Marlins

Former Cardinals infielder Brian Barden has been released by the Marlins.

Barden, who can play shortstop, second base and third, couldn't hit well enough to keep his major league job. He was batting .179 and could only find 32 plate appearances so far this season. He's a .211 hitter over his career.

His best season was 2009 when he hit .233 with four homers and 10 RBIs for the Cardinals in 52 games.
