My hopes weren't high Tuesday with minor league call up Mitchell Boggs pitching for the Cardinals and their worst nightmare pitching against them: A young pitcher with an 87-MPH fastball that they have never seen before.
But, there they were with the winning run at the plate in the ninth inning with only one out and the heart of the order coming up...
Sadly, Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday were unable to come through and the Cardnals lost 5-4. But the Cubs lost to the Phillies at home, so it' all good. A four-game lead in the NL Central would have been nice. But I will settle for keeping the three-game advantage while lopping another game off the schedule.

Cardinals Star of the Game: Yadier Molina was three for four, although he hit into an inning killing double play in his hitless at bat and made an out trying to stretch a single into a double while down by three runs another trip to the plate...
Lowlight: Boggs was terrible in the first. He was lucky to get out of the inning after giving up only three runs thanks to a Reds baserunning error. He settled down later. But the Cardinals were never able to overcome the early setback.
