Another of the teams claimed to be a most likely destination for Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday has abandoned the bidding war before it even began.
Giants GM Brian Sabian told the San Francisco Chronicle that he hasn't called Holliday's agent, Scott Boras, and he doesn't plan to call him. The reason? Sabean believes Holliday isn't serious about the Giants and that his club would simply be used by Boras to drive up the pricetag for the eventual Holliday derby winner.
It would be nice to believe that this is the year that the owners won't bling and write a $100 million check on the solemn promise that if they don't someone else will. But, while the Yankees, Giants, Angels and Dodgers have all claimed they aren't interested, I wonder if they will really stay out of the bidding or if they're be unable to resist when push comes to shove.
